Gilas Pilipinas at the 2026 Asian Games men's basketball: Groups, format, schedule

Gilas Pilipinas opened its gold medal defense bid at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan on Friday, the second day of the men’s basketball tournament.

Twelve teams are competing for the gold medal, with the Philippines hoping to repeat its title run from 2023.

The teams are divided into three groups:

Group A

• Republic of Korea
• Japan
• Indonesia
• Saudi Arabia

Group B

• Chinese Taipei
• Qatar
• Jordan
• Iran

Group C

• China
• Bahrain
• Philippines
• Kazakhstan

Only the top two teams from each group, along with the two best third-place finishers, will advance to the quarterfinals.

From there, the tournament will move into the knockout stage, with the quarterfinals followed by the semifinals and medal matches.

The quarterfinals are scheduled for September 16, followed by the semifinals on September 18 and the gold medal game on September 20.
