UAAP: Adamson completes comeback vs. FEU in Season 89 opener

Adamson University completed a come-from-behind victory over Far Eastern University, 56-53, in the opening game of the UAAP Season 89 men’s basketball tournament on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

After trailing 46-37 in the third period, the Falcons continued their surge after back-to-back baskets from Matt Erolon and Monty Montebon closed the frame. Adamson then opened the fourth period with an 11-0 run to take a 48-46 lead.

Cabs Cabonilas broke the Tamaraws’ scoring drought and tied the game at 48, but the rookie from FEU’s juniors program was the only player to score for the Morayta-based squad in the fourth period.

After his final basket with 1:52 remaining trimmed the deficit to 54-53, Erolon delivered the dagger for Adamson as both teams went scoreless in the final moments of the game.

Montebon led the Falcons with 18 points, knocking down four three-pointers, while also adding three rebounds, four steals, and an assist. Newcomer Matt Edding chipped in 10 points.

Cabonilas paced FEU with 11 points, seven of which came in the fourth period, along with 12 rebounds, an assist, and a steal. Janrey Pasaol also scored 11 points and added five assists and a steal.
