Jordan Clarkson hopes to join Gilas Pilipinas anew in FIBA World Cup
Filipino-American basketball star and NBA champion Jordan Clarkson hopes to suit up for the Philippines again in the FIBA World Cup, should Gilas Pilipinas qualify for the tournament.
In an interview with GQ Philippines, Clarkson said playing for the Philippines is his way of paying tribute to his late grandmother.
“Another World Cup is coming up, and I want to be there,” Clarkson said.
Clarkson previously represented the Philippines at the 2018 Asian Games and the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
With Filipino-Americans such as Jalen Green and Dylan Harper also playing in the NBA, Clarkson hopes more players with Filipino heritage will suit up for the national team.
“There haven’t been so many Filipino Americans in the league, and Filipinos, period. So knowing that I get to represent that and kind of change the narrative in any way that I can, that’s what I’m trying to do,” Clarkson said.
Gilas Pilipinas, meanwhile, will return to action in the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers this November.
