UAAP: FEU breaks through, routs UE with Gavina out

Far Eastern University broke through in UAAP Season 89 with a 93-70 victory over the University of the East on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The Red Warriors played without head coach Chris Gavina, with Paolo Hubalde calling the shots on an interim basis.

The Tamaraws held a 43-29 lead at halftime before the Morayta-based squad continued to pound on UE in the second half.

The lead ballooned to as much as 29 points, 86-57, with 4:19 remaining in the fourth period before FEU eventually secured the victory.

Mo Konateh had 15 points, nine rebounds, and a block, while Kirby Mongcopa posted a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds, along with six assists and a steal.

Jorick Bautista added 13 points, while Janrey Pasaol and Jedric Daa had 12 points each as FEU improved to 1-1.

Toper Lagat, meanwhile, led the Red Warriors with 20 points, while Mo Tanedo and Gene Carillo had 16 and 13 points, respectively, as UE extended its losing streak to 23 games since Season 87 and fell to 0-3 this season.
