UAAP: FEU extends win streak to four with rout of Louie Alas-less Ateneo
Far Eastern University extended its winning streak to four games after routing Ateneo de Manila University, 93-70, in the UAAP Season 89 men’s basketball tournament on Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Tamaraws capitalized on the Blue Eagles’ absence of head coach Louie Alas, who was suspended after accumulating three bench infractions.
Ateneo took an early 27-23 lead in the first quarter before FEU tightened its defense, limiting the Blue Eagles to just 12 points in the second period to take a 46-39 halftime advantage.
The Tamaraws continued to pull away in the second half, holding Ateneo to 15 points in the third quarter and 16 in the fourth to cruise to the 23-point victory.
Mo Konateh powered FEU with a double-double of 29 points and 11 rebounds, alongside three blocks, two assists, and two steals. Kirby Mongcopa added 19 points, seven assists, six rebounds, and two steals as the Tamaraws improved to 4-1.
Jared Bahay led Ateneo with 17 points, seven assists, two steals, and two rebounds, while Kieffer Alas contributed 16 points.
The Blue Eagles absorbed their second consecutive loss to drop to 3-3.
