NCAA: Justine Sanchez earns Player of the Week honors as Benilde extends winning streak

De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde has been on a four-game winning streak, posting the league’s best record with a 6-1 card, with Justine Sanchez playing a key role in its last two victories in NCAA Season 102.

The 6-foot-5 forward led the Blazers to wins over San Sebastian College-Recoletos and Arellano University, earning him Collegiate Press Corps (CPC) Player of the Week honors for October 5 to 9.

Sanchez posted a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds in Benilde’s 73-66 win over the Stags on Monday before following it up with 17 points, eight rebounds, and five assists in a victory over the Chiefs on Friday.

Now a veteran of the team, Sanchez has been carrying the leadership role for the Taft-based squad, especially with back-to-back NCAA MVP Allen Liwag still sidelined by injury.

“Malaking bagay din kasi ‘yung pag-lead ko sa kanila, at ‘yung pakikipag-usap ko sa kanila. Everytime na may nangyayari na hindi maganda, tinitipon ko sila, para ma-assure na maging clear ‘yung ginagawa namin sa loob,” he added.

Sanchez edged San Beda University’s Aldous Torculas, Mapúa University’s Marc Cuenco and Ivan Lazarte, Jose Rizal University’s Lawrence Mangubat, and Colegio de San Juan de Letran’s Titing Manalili for the weekly recognition.
