Gary David had his usual numbers for Powerade but failed to lead the Tigers to a playoff-clinching win against the Alaska Aces PBA Commissioner's Cup Friday night at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.   The Aces bucked David's 40-point explosion to escape with a thrilling 102-100 overtime win against the Tigers, a victory that propelled Alaska back into the playoffs.   Adam Parada, who finished with a team-high 28 markers, grabbed a Cyrus Baguio miss and scored on a putback to put Alaska in front, 102-100. Regulation ended at 92-all.   Powerade was left with 0.9 seconds to complete a game-winning play but Marcio Lassiter stepped on the sidelines that sealed Alaska's spot in the playoffs. The Aces finished the elimination round with a 5-4 card.   The Tigers dropped to an even 4-4 mark and need to win their final game against the B-MEG Llamados on Sunday to clinch a berth in the next phase of the mid-season conference.

Powerade squandered a number of double-digit leads as the Tigers were in control for most of the match but failed to prevent a late scoring rally by the Aces.   Powerade, which was in a celebratory mood after Tigers alternate board governor Kenneth Duremdes—one of the PBA's 25 greatest players—had his jersey retired by the league and the Coca-Cola-owned franchise, led by 16 points with still five minutes left in the game. Duremdes started his career with Alaska helping the Aces win four championships from 1998-2003. He played for Powerade in 2007 before being appointed as the team's coach in 2008.   Bonbon Custodio supported Parada with 19 points and five assists while Sonny Thoss chipped in 13 markers.   Lassiter and import Dwayne Jones contributed 17 and 14 points each for Powerade. — JVP, GMA News Scores:
