The Boracay Rum Waves defeated the Café France Bakers, 77-75, while Erase Plantcenta suffered a 106-69 trouncing to the Big Chill Superchargers to forge a three-way tie for the final quarterfinal berth. Boracay Rum, Café France and Erase Plantcenta are now tied for sixth place with 3-5 win-loss records as all three teams aim to clinch the last quarterfinal spot in their respective final elimination round games. Among the teams, the Waves and the Erasers have the tougher assignments as they will each face defending champion NLEX and last year's runner-up Cebuana Lhuillier in the final week of the eliminations. Café France will face fourth-ranked Blackwater Sports in their final outing. Jay Eguilos hit a jumper to give Boracay Rum the lead with five seconds left to complete a big turnaround by the Waves, who came back after trailing by 11 points in the third period. Boracay Rum earned an 8-0 run in the fourth period to grab the advantage, 68-61, after falling behind by 46-35 in the third. Bandaying led the Waves with 16 points including nine in the fourth that highlighted the come-from-behind victory. Ken Acibar added 15 markers while Maclean Sabellina had 11. Boracay still had some anxious moments as Café France tied the count despite a 75-65 lead on Jason Deutchman's inside basket to complete a 10-0 run. The Waves were able to execute a final play with Eguilos scoring after receiving an inbounds pass. Despite coming off a two-week break, Big Chill played like a well-oiled machine as a series of fastbreak plays led to a 49-29 halftime spread and the Superchargers never looked back from there. Big Chill is now tied with Cebuana Lhuillier with a 6-2 win-loss record but holds the advantage in the tiebreaker with a victory over RnW Pacific Pipes next week to seal an outright passage in the semifinals. Jessie Collado had 16 points while Mac Montilla had 15 as both players combined for 20 points in the second period to spark the rout. — JVP, GMA News
