Once again, goaltending has been thrust into the center of the PBA spotlight. PBA commissioner Chito Salud announced Saturday that the league has suspended referee Rey Yante, who worked Friday's Alaska Aces versus Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters game for six gamedays for an erroneous call. With under half a minute to play, Tropang Texter Kelly Williams was wrongly whistled for a goaltend on a Cyrus Baguio shot that tied the game at 92-all. Alaska would go on to win the game on a Jvee Casio make with 2.4 seconds left, as Larry Fonacier's attempt would go in and out on the last possession.

"The game has become so fast and the players so athletic that there will be miscalls from time to time. As much as the PBA is doing its best to avoid these errors, this is one of them," the league said in a statement on its official Twitter account. Last October 28, what does and doesn't constitute a goaltending violation got a lot of attention after San Mig Coffee's Rafi Reavis made a play for the ball while it was on the rim in their win against the Barako Bull Energy Cola. Referees correctly ruled that it was not a goaltend in that game, despite Barako's protests, due to the PBA's adoption of FIBA's goaltending rule. As a result of Alaska's win, the plucky Aces have now won five in a row after dropping their first two assignments, to claim solo second place at 5-2. Talk 'N Text on the other hand suffered their first loss, but are still at the top of the standings at 6-1. - AMD, GMA News
