Japeth Aguilar got one step closer to fulfilling his dream of becoming the first Filipino in the NBA after being selected in the seventh round with the 13th pick by the NBA Development League's Santa Cruz Warriors, Friday (Saturday, PHL time).
Aguilar, who averaged 6.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.3 blocks last season in the PBA for the Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters, opted not to return to the local professional league during the offseason, instead attending workouts in the United States. Though he was not able to receive an invite to an NBA training camp, his selection in the D-League draft gives him a chance to play in the NBA's minor league, with the possibility of good play being awarded with a call-up by an NBA team. The Santa Cruz Warriors were relocated to Santa Clara during the offseason after going six seasons as the Dakota Wizards and are officially affiliated with the NBA's Golden State Warriors. - AMD, GMA NewsWith the 13th pick of the 7th round, the Santa Cruz Warriors select Japeth Aguilar, 6'10" center from Western Kentucky #DLeagueDraft
