Head coach Norman Black goes from winning five straight titles with the Ateneo Blue Eagles in the UAAP, to hunting for an 11th in the PBA . KC Cruz
After bringing his team a win closer to their goal of three straight Philippine Cup championships, Talk 'N Text head coach Norman Black knows that Game 2 is where things start to get interesting, at least in the coaching aspect. "This is where the fun begins," said Black right after his Tropang Texters defeated the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, 87-81 in Game 1 of their best-of-seven series. "I know coach Yeng [Guiao] is a tremendous coach and that he'll start making adjustments based on what happened in this game," said Black. "Now we have to see how he adjusts so we can re-adjust." However they are handling very different teams, which means new quirks will appear in the series. One such difference appeared in the fourth quarter of game one. Down 13 points heading into the fourth quarter, 71-58, Guiao pulled a rabbit out of a hat when he chose to go small with his line-up. Playing as a guard for most of the game, Gabe Norwood was suddenly inserted into the power forward position, which caught Black off guard. The Elasto Painters were able to slice the lead to three, but they came up short when the Texters rediscovered their shot. "To tell you the truth, I really don't remember what happened during the fourth quarter," said Black. "All I know is that we had trouble with their small lineup. "A lot of times, coaches are in survival mode," he added. "We really don't pay attention to every little thing because we're zoned in on just winning." Even though his Tropang Texters were able to pull out a victory, Black still think there are a lot of adjustments to be made. "I have to go home and watch this game again because the only thing that stands out right now is they went small, and they caught us with a big line-up on the floor," Black said. On the other hand, Guiao appears to be holding his cards close to his chest as he did not leave hints as to what their adjustments will be. "The stats show that we beat them in almost all departments except in three-point shooting," Guiao said. "As badly as we played, we still had a chance to win it." The Rain or Shine head coach also added that he still likes their chances even after the defeat. "I'm still confident and very positive," said Guiao. "It's just the first game. We just want to hang around because if we do that we will be able to grind out wins."- AMD, GMA News
