ABL: San Miguel Beermen Gabe Freeman and Mike Burtscher sanctioned by the league

A pair of San Miguel Beermen, import Gabe Freeman and Mike Burtscher, were reprimanded for separate incidents, the Asean Basketball League announced Tuesday via press release. Freeman was hit with a one-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for "unsportsmanlike conduct" and "unnecessary and excessive physical contact" during the Beermen's win against the Singapore Slingers, Sunday. [Related: San Miguel Beermen back above .500, move into second with win over Slingers] A suspension would be a big blow for the team, as Freeman is currently the squad's top scorer, norming 18.29 points per game, along with 10.43 rebounds, 1.86 assists and 1.29 steals. The Beermen are slated to play their next game on Saturday, March 2, versus the Westports Malaysia Dragons at the Ynares Sports Arena, Manila. Meanwhile, Burtscher was hit with an undisclosed fine "following a comment regarding league officials made via his public Twitter account." In addition to the two Beermen, Slinger Kyle Jeffers was also fined for unsportsmanlike conduct, while teammate Rashad Jones-Jennings was similarly penalized for "making inappropriate comments about league officials during a media interview." Per league rules, the players hit by penalties will be allowed 36 hours to file an appeal. - AMD, GMA News
