The San Miguel Beermen survived a pesky Saigon Heat team, 71-69, extending their winning streak to 12 games on Saturday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City. Down five with 3:42 remaining in the fourth, Saigon's Jai Reyes found David Palmer for a three that cut down the deficit to two, 68-66. Reyes then put Leo Avenido on the line at the 3:04 mark, where the former FEU Tamaraw missed both charities, only for Reyes to muff a go-ahead trey at the other end. Another Avenido conversion off a steal put San Miguel ahead by four with 2:23 remaining, as Brian Williams and Reyes traded misses from the field. In the final minute, the Beermen went to Asi Taulava, who failed to convert on consecutive tries. With 29 ticks remaining, Reyes found Norman Gonzales for a three, making it a one-point game. Oping Sumalinog ended up fouling Williams with 10 seconds remaining. The American made the first, but missed the second, leaving the Heat with nine seconds to tie or win the game. In the end, Saigon went to Sumalinog, who missed the game-winning trey, as San Miguel secured the defensive rebound en route to claim its 12th straight win. Brian Williams led San Miguel with 19 points and five rebounds, while Asi Taulava had 18 and eight. For Saigon, David Palmer and Justin Howard combined for 33 points and 26 rebounds, while Jai Reyes had 16 points and eight assists. - RAF, GMA News
