ABL: San Miguel Beermen mentor Leo Austria named Coach of the Year

San Miguel Beermen head coach Leo Austria was named 2013 Coach of the Year on Monday, the Asean Basketball League announced in a press release.

Austria, who is also head coach of the Adamson Falcons in the UAAP, piloted the Beermen to a 19-3 regular season record, along the way, hitting several league milestones, including longest win streak at 16 straight victories, and largest margin of victory, a 101-49 drubbing of the Saigon Heat last April.

In the statement, ABL CEO Anthony Macri said that the award was "no surprise," adding, "A great blend of tactician and motivator, Coach Austria’s understated approach was a strong influence on his players, and we are lucky to have him here in the ASEAN Basketball League."

The Beermen are currently facing a 1-1 tie in their best-of-five semifinals series against the Sports Rev Thailand Slammers.  - AMD, GMA News
