FIBA names Brazil, Finland, Greece and Turkey as wildcards for 2014 World Cup

FIBA announced Saturday that the countries of Brazil, Finland, Greece and Turkey will round out the field of competition in the 2014 FIBA World Cup, set for Spain, starting August 30.

The four were selected from a field of 15 teams that included the likes of China and Qatar from Asia, Canada from the Americas, Nigeria from Africa, and Russia and Germany from Europe.
They join the other 20 previously qualified teams, which include hosts Spain, 2012 Olympic titlists USA, the top three teams from the FIBA Africa tourney, Angola, Egypt and Senegal, the top four teams from the FIBA Americas tourney, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Argentina and the Dominican Republic, the top three from the FIBA Asia Championship, Iran, the Philippines and Korea, the best six from the FIBA Eurobasket tilt, France, Lithuania, Croatia, Slovenia, Ukraine and Serbia, plus the duo from the FIBA Oceania contest, Australia and New Zealand.
The draw for the tournament will be done on February 3, in Barcelona. - AMD, GMA News
