Online, Pinoy fans fete Gilas Pilipinas heroes June Mar Fajardo, Jimmy Alapag

Jimmy Alapag and June Mar Fajardo nailed the clutch baskets that lifted the Philippines to its first win in the world basketball stage in 40 years, an 81-79 victory over Senegal in overtime on Thursday night.

Pinoys lauded Gilas Pilipinas captain Alapag's efforts as he carried the team the whole series with his perimeter shooting and orchestrations from the point. Fajardo also received praises as he delivered a stellar performance in the paint after finally getting extended minutes on the floor.

The sweet victory is an apt send-off for team captain Alapag, who played his last game in Gilas uniform after deciding to retire from the team upon the conclusion of the Philippines' campaign in the World Cup. — JST, GMA News/Photo courtesy of FIBA.com
