Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters star point guard Jimmy Alapag has retired from the PBA.

The league's Most Valuable Player in 2011, Alapag made the announcement in a news conference on Friday.

Alapag was picked 10th overall by Talk 'N Text in 2003 when he earned Rookie of the Year honors. He was a nine-time PBA All-Star and a six-time PBA champion, winning four Philippine Cup trophies, a Commissioner's Cup crown, and an All-Filipino Cup title spending his whole career with the Tropang Texters.

He will take over as team manager of the Tropang Texters while serving as an assistant coach of the Gilas Pilipinas national team.

This follows his decision to retire from playing for the national squad last year, when he represented the Philippines in the FIBA Basketball World Cup and the Asian Games. —Renee Fopalan/JST, GMA News
