The Letran Knights defeated the San Beda Red Lions in overtime, 85-82, in Game Three of the NCAA Season 91 finals on Thursday at Mall of Asia Arena.

The mighty Muralla dribblers ended the five-year reign of their Mendiola archrivals. It is Letran's first NCAA championship since 2005, a drought that included three fruitless trips to the finals at the hands of San Beda.

"Tama na 'yung sakit. Tayo naman ngayon," Letran coach Aldin Ayo told the school's supporters after the game.

Letran found a hero in shining armor in unheralded Jom Sollano, who played the game of his life. He scored 19 points, including the go-ahead basket in overtime that gave the Knights an 83-82 lead with 32 seconds remaining.

That allowed the Knights to hold on after squandering an eight-point lead in the dying minutes of regulation, which saw the Red Lions claw back after several turnovers by Letran. —JST, GMA News
