Ildefonso's son leads way in Batang Gilas' 40-point win over Bahrain

Batang Gilas opened its FIBA Asia Under-16 Championship campaign with a bang as they won a lopsided 98-58 victory over Bahrain on Thursday in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Sean Dave Ildefonso, the son of former PBA player Danny Ildefonso, led the team with 16 points and six rebounds as they soundly whipped the Gulf team in Group C.
Will Allen Gozum provided steady support with 14 points and nine rebounds, while Juan Gerardo Gomez, Gian Robert Mamuyac, and Jonas Raphael Tibayan also finished in double digits for the Philippines.
Fadhel Abdulhusain carried Bahrain with 21 points, but he was the only one to score in double figures for his team.
Batang Gilas lorded in every statistical category, lording over the boards with 49-39 and assists with 27-14. The squad also coverted 36 points off Bahrain's 35 turnovers.
Despite being undersized, the Filipino young guns also dominated in the paint, collecting 60 points to Bahrain's 24. The team also shot better overall, converting 48.2 percent of their shots compared to the opponents' 35.2 percent.
