PBA: Yancy surprises with 17 as Beermen outlast NLEX in OT
Thirty five year old Yancy De Ocampo put on a vintage performance on Wednesday, scoring 17 points with 12 rebounds to lead the San Miguel Beermen to an 88-80 win over the NLEX Road Warriors at the Cuneta Astrodome.
"Yancy redeemed himself di nawala focus nya sa game," said SMB head coach Leo Austria in the post game interview. "I'm happy to see players off the bench. That's what we're doing sa practice. Si Yancy nag-step up at pinakita nya yung kanyang experience."
Alex Cabagnot made it a five-point game with 26 seconds remaining in regulation, but a pair of charities from Asi Taulava and a Sean Anthony steal set up Jonas Villanueva for the game-tying trey with 14 ticks left. Off a timeout, SMB went to a late try from Cabagnot but his shot failed to fall through, sending the game to extra time.
In overtime, San Miguel went for the kill, outscoring NLEX 10-2 to take the victory.
"Thank God we salvaged this game," Austria added. "I told the players this will be a very tough game for us coz they have a big man who can outplay our big man."
Asi Taulava and Jonas Villanueva had 20 points each for NLEX. The two also combined for 13 rebounds. Sean Anthony had 12 points and 15 boards. The three Road Warriors, however, also combined for 13 turnovers. - GMA News
