Ayo elated with Archers' performance
La Salle head coach Aldin Ayo is elated with the performance of his players after two games in the FilOil Flying V Pre-season Premier Cup.
La Salle, now 2-0 in the standings in Group B, are slowly making an impression as the team to beat in this year’s pre-season competition.
“I’m just allowing them to play basketball. If they have it, I allow them to take those shots and I just tell them to be responsible. If there’s one thing that is good with our new system, all players here just play basketball and enjoy the game,” Ayo said in Filipino during the post-match interview.
In their second outing in the FilOil Pre-season Cup, La Salle came out with a dominant 97-75 win against the tough University of the East (UE) Red Warriors on Friday afternoon.
Rookie big man Ben Mbala led the men from Taft Avenue with a total of 24 points during the game against UE while adding 15 boards, two assists and four blocks.
“If there’s one thing we did well in this game, it was our execution in our plays. After our two games,” La Salle new mentor elaborated.
However, Ayo explained that his wards are still far from being familiar with the new system he is slowly inculcating with the Green Archers.
“We are still far from being comfortable with the new system. We’re still 60 to 70 percent. If you’ll see, there are still a lot of things to do. We are a long way to go.”
Ayo said their success in the collegiate cage competition will depend on his players' willingness to win.
“It will depend on their attitude. I make sure that the mindset of the players are well because even if they are performing well, it will still depend on their willingness to win,” he said.
DLSU plays in Group B of the pre-season tilt together with Adamson, Ateneo, Lyceum, Letran, Mapua, San Beda and UE.
They are scheduled to clash with the Mapua Cardinals for their next outing at the San Juan Arena on May 19. — APG, GMA News
