Phelps powers Phoenix past Blackwater
The Phoenix Fuel Masters had their way against the Blackwater Elite, earning a 93-81 victory on Wednesday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
Eugene Phelps had 29 points and 26 rebounds for Phoenix, while Mark Borboran led the locals with 15 markers. Simon Enciso chipped in 12 while Cyrus Baguio added 10 points off the bench.
"We'll take this win. It wasn't a quality game for us; it's the lowest assist total we had," admitted Phoenix head coach Ariel Vanguardia after the game after his team tallied just 16 assists. "Hulog ng langit si [Eugene] Phelps. We know Cyrus, slowly but surely he'll give us stability."
Art Dela Cruz and Carlo Lastimosa paced Blackwater with 18 points each, while import Keala King settled for 14 points on a 5-of-11 shooting clip.
The Fuel Masters dominated the Elite 17-8 in second chance points, while capitalizing on a 52-40 advantage in points on the paint.
