Ravena scores 22 as Ateneo bests UP in Battle of Katipunan

Thirdy Ravena came off the bench for 22 points to lead Ateneo past University of the Philippines, 79-64, in the battle of Katipunan schools on Wednesday.

With the victory, Ateneo moved to solo second in the UAAP Season 79 standings at 4-2, while UP lost for the fifth time in six games.

The Blue Eagles overcame a 17-13 deficit in the first period, more than doubling the Maroons' output it the second to take a 38-29 lead at the half. 

UP was able to trim the lead to just four heading into the fourth, 58-54, behind Paul Desirerio's eight points. But Ravena, Chi Ikeh, and Anton Asistio outscored UP, 19-10, in the final frame to take the victory.

Ikeh finished the game with 14 points, while Asistio added 10. Mike Nieto and Vince Tolentino chipped in seven points each.

Desiderio finished the game with 25 points, while Jett Manuel had 17. No other Maroon scored in double figures, with Jarrell Lim coming closest with seven. —JST, GMA News
