Mendoza's career-high lifts Ateneo past UE

Jolo Mendoza scored 15 points in the first half to lead the Ateneo Blue Eagles past University of the East, 75-61, on Wednesday.

Mendoza scored five in the first and 10 in the second period to give the Blue Eagles a five-point edge at the halftime break. 

Ateneo leaned on Adrian Wong and Issac Go for 10 of the team's 18 points for a more comfortable 60-48 lead heading into the final turn.

In the final frame, the Warriors struggled to overcome the lead, scoring just 13 to Ateneo's 15 to let the Blue Eagles cruise to victory.

Thirdy Ravena added 14 points for Ateneo, while Wong finished the game with 11. Mike Nieto, meanwhile, tallied 10 to round up the Eagles in double figures.

Philip Manalang paced UE with 16 points, while Ronnie De Leon added 13. No other Warrior scored in double figures with Alvin Pasaol and Paul Varilla being limited to just seven points each. —JST, GMA News
