Vets take charge as Ginebra guts Kia

Greg Slaughter and Mark Caguioa provided some veteran leadership on Wednesday, as Barangay Ginebra San Miguel relied on their high-powered offense to cruise past the Kia Picanto, 120-99, at the Araneta Coliseum in the 2017 PBA Governors' Cup.

Slaughter finished the game with 18 points, six boards, and five assists off the bench, while Mark Caguioa added 16 points off an almost perfect 8 of 9 shooting clip.

Import Justin Brownlee still led the team in points with 26 along with 10 boards and seven assists, while LA Tenorio rounded up the scorers in double figures with 10.

Ginebra opened up with a 33-18 blast in the opening period to set the tone, before playing consistently in the last three to bury Kia.

The Gin Kings shot a high 49 percent from the field, including a 45 percent clip from beyond the arc. They also moved the ball to find their shooters, dishing off 39 assists to Kia's 19. Ginebra also recorded 11 blocks, with four players tallying two apiece.

Reden Celda was a revelation for Kia off the bench, hitting 21 points in just 26 minutes of play. Import Markeith Cummings scored just 14 off a 30 percent clip, while Glen Khobuntin chipped in 16.

Ginebra improves to 2-1 while Kia drops to last place at 0-4. —JST, GMA News
