The GlobalPort Batang Pier almost doubled Meralco’s output in the first quarter en route to a 107-88 victory on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.

Jonathan Grey was a surprise off the bench, hitting 24 points in less than 23 minutes on the floor.

Sean Anthony led the starters with 18 points, while Stanley Pringle and Kelly Nabong chipped in 17 points apiece, with the latter grabbing 17 rebounds in the process.

The Batang Pier opened up with a 29-16 blast in the first, leading by as many as 29 points to cruise to victory.

GlobalPort limited Meralco to a low 37 percent clip from the field, while shooting 43 percent, hitting 39 of their 89 attempts.

The Batang Pier also pulled points from the stripe, connecting on 17 off their 21 attempts from the line while limiting Meralco to just eight charities.

The biggest story, though, was the rebounding as the Batang Pier grabbed 67 boards to Meralco’s 46.

Reynel Hugnatan and Chris Newsome carried Meralco’s bench with 17 points each, while Mike Tolomia came off the bench for 15 points. Mac Baracael rounded up the Bolts in double figures with 12. — DVM, GMA News
