Manuel saves Alaska in OT vs GlobalPort
Vic Manuel came up big in overtime to lift the Alaska Aces Past the GlobalPort Batang Pier, 105-98, on Sunday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
Manuel finished the game with 21 points off the bench, while Chris Banchero and Jayvee Casio paced the starters with 16 points apiece. Calvin Abueva tallied 12 points and 12 boards as a reserve, while Jeron Teng added 11 in a starting role.
Tied at 96-all at the 3:21 mark of extra time, Vic Manuel strung four straight while Ping Exciminiano split from the line to make it a five-point spread for the Aces, 101-96.
Misses from Nico Elorde and Kelly Nabong didn't help GlobalPort's cause, but an offensive board from Nabong led to a split that stopped the bleeding for the Batang Pier with 70 ticks to go.
Off a timeout, Vic Manuel earned his own trip to the line for his version of a split, before Kevin Racal also went one of two after a Stanley Pringle miss at the other end, 103-97.
GlobalPort tried to chip away at the lead with the clock stopped, but Nico Elorde also only managed to get one freethrow to go from his trip to keep the lead at five with 18 seconds remaining.
A quick foul from Bradwyn Guinto put Manuel on the line anew, and the veteran did not disappoint by knocking two charities that put the game away.
Stanley Pringle carried GlobalPort with 28 points, eight boards, and six assists, while Sean Anthony scored 21 with 14 rebounds. The two played heavy minutes, logging in over 40 minutes each along with Kelly Nabong, who had 15 points and 12 rebounds. Jonathan Grey added 10 off the bench, but the rest of the bench only combined for 11 more points. — DVM, GMA News
