Ballesteros tows Bolts to victory over Ginebra
The Meralco Bolts sparked an 8-2 run in the final two minutes, leaning on an unlikely hero in Jason Ballesteros, to defeat Barangay GInebra San Miguel, 84-82, on Sunday.
Garvo Lanete led Meralco with 19 points, while Anjo Caram and Chris Newsome added 16 and 12 points, respectively, as starters. Team captain Reynel Hugnatan paced the bench with 12 points.
Down four after a Scottie Thompson split, the Bolts went on a 4-0 run to grab the lead with 76 seconds remaining, 81-80. LA Tenorio connected on two charities to re-establish Ginebra’s lead, but a Jason Ballesteros short stab and a split gave Metalco a two-point advantage.
With just 17 seconds left on the clock, Ginebra set up for the final pay, but Japeth Aguilar’s attempt from deep did not go through, giving the Bolts the victory.
Japeth Aguilar had 20 points to lead Ginebra, while Scottie Thompson tallied 17 with 13 boards and five assists. Greg Slaughter scored 12, but LA Tenorio was just limited to five points off a 1 of 8 shooting clip. — DVM, GMA News
