Rain or Shine barges into q’finals with win over San Miguel
The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters relied on a 35-18 flurry in the fourth period to defeat the San Miguel Beermen, 95-80, and earn a quarterfinals berth in the 2018 PBA Philippine Cup.
Beau Belga led the starters with 19 points, while Jewel Ponferada was a gem off the bench with 17 markers.
Mark Borboran and Gabs Norwood rounded up the Elasto Painters in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Down 62-60 heading into the final frame, the Elasto Painters ignited a 14-4 blast to take the driver’s seat off a Rey Nambatac split, 74-66, with 7:48 to go.
Another 8-0 blast midway through the fourth stretched the lead to 14, 85-71, an advantage Rain or Shine was able to sustain until the final 1:34 of the game.
The Beermen only had one field goal in the final stretch, letting Rain or Shine come away with the victory.
June Mar Fajardo led San Miguel with 19 points and 10 boards, while Marcio Lassiter chipped in 17.
Alex Cabagnot was the only other player in double figures with 13, as Arwind Santos was limited to eight points off a 3 of 10 clip.
Chris Ross and Matt Ganuelas-Rosser combined for seven points off a 2 of 13 clip. — BAP, GMA News
