PBA: Sangalang scores 22 as Magnolia downs GlobalPort
The Magnolia Hotshots feasted on GlobalPort’s miscues to earn a 92-87 win at the AUF Sports Arena in the elimination round of the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Sunday.
GlobalPort committed 23 turnovers, which Magnolia converted into 21 points. The Hotshots, meanwhile, limited their miscues to just 10.
Ian Sangalang led Magnolia with 22 points and eight rebounds off the bench, while import Vernon Macklin added 19 markers and 13 boards. Rome Dela Rosa rounded up the Hotshots in double figures with 14.
The Batang Pier held a two-point lead with 3:53 to go after a Sean Anthony and-one, but Ian Sangalang and Paul Lee uncorked a 7-0 swing to take a five-point advantage entering the final two minutes.
Stanley Pringle canned two from the stripe, but Vernon Macklin countered with his own charities to keep it a two possession game with 41 seconds left, 91-87.
Another Pringle miss on the drive doomed GlobalPort, as Gio Jalalon split at the other end to put the game away.
GlobalPort’s starters carried the squad, with Sean Anthony hitting 20 points with 11 rebounds but with eight turnovers. Malcolm White scored 17 with 14 rebounds, while Stanley Pringle and Mo Tautua tallied 14 and 12 points, respectively, combining for 19 rebounds. — BM, GMA News
