The PBA Board of Governors on Thursday said they will abide with the FIBA decision on the 18-month suspension of Gilas Pilipinas and NLEX Road Warriors stalwart Kiefer Ravena.

"The board did take the decision of FIBA very serious because it has affected one of our players and FIBA [is] not allowing Kiefer to play the game in the tournament," PBA Board of Governors Chair Ricky Vargas said in a press conference.

"It also recognizes that we are members of SBP and as members of the SBP, we respect the rules that is in consonance with the FIBA ruling of suspension," he added.

Asked about the appeal to let Ravena play in the PBA amid the FIBA suspension, SBP President and Meralco Bolts Governor Al Panlilio said, "I actually knew the answer even before I received it, it's very clear in the ruling na all leagues and events, except for activities related to anti-doping. It is very clear na he is not allowed to play in the league."

Panlilio added that with the ruling, Ravena will also be prohibited from joining practices for NLEX.

FIBA's decision to suspend Ravena came after he tested positive for "banned substances" during the Gilas-Japan game last February for the FIBA Asia World Cup Qualifiers. The suspension will run from February 25, 2018 to August 24, 2019. — BAP, GMA News
