Justin Brownlee fired 42 points on a high 89 percent clip as Barangay Ginebra San Miguel dominated the San Miguel Beermen, 127-99 to take Game 1 of the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup finals.

The Beermen never led in the game, while Ginebra’s advantage ballooned to as much as 39 points in the fourth period. Coach Tim Cone’s squad ended the game with a high 61 percent shooting average, while San Miguel struggled for 39 percent.

Joe Devance led the locals with 20 points, while Greg Slaughter and Mark Caguioa added 11 apiece. Sol Mercado chipped in 10 off the bench, while LA Tenorio struggled with a 28 percent shooting clip for nine points.

Renaldo Balkman carried San Miguel’s starters, scoring 27 points in 38 minutes. But aside from June Mar Fajardo who tallied 10, Chris Ross, Arwind Santos, and Marcio Lassiter were all limited to single digits. The three combined for just 18 points off a 6 of 25 clip.

Christian Stanhardinger had an efficient outing, hitting 26 points in under 25 minutes. The rest of San Miguel’s bench, however, combined for just 15. — DVM, GMA News
