PBA: Cabagnot tallies career-high 33 as San Miguel evens series vs. Ginebra
Alex Cabagnot tallied a career-high 33 points as the San Miguel Beermen outgunned Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, 134-109, to even the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals series on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.
At least four more players scored in double figures, with June Mar Fajardo hitting 25. Marcio Lassiter, Renaldo Balkman, and Christian Stanhardinger also chipped in 20 points apiece, while Arwind Santos scored 14.
Similar to what Ginebra did in Game 1, San Miguel buried their opponents early in the game, establishing a double digit advantage in the opening period. The Beermen led by as many as 31 points in the third, preventing the Gin Kings from sustaining any form of a run that could threaten their large lead.
Coach Leo Austria’s squad limited themselves to just 13 turnovers while collecting 27 points from 19 Ginebra miscues. And although Ginebra shot a high 48 percent, it was not enough to overcome San Miguel’s 58-percent outing.
Justin Brownlee paced Ginebra with 29 points, as Joe Devance and Scottie Thompson added 16 each. Greg Slaughter came off the bench for 15 markers, while LA Tenorio and Sol Mercado scored 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Game 3 will be on Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum. — BM, GMA News
