House bill filed to grant PHL citizenship to Ginebra Gin Kings’ Justin Brownlee
A bill has been filed at the House of Representatives seeking to grant Philippine citizenship to Barangay Ginebra San Miguel import Justin Brownlee.
House Bill 8106, principally authored by 1-PACMAN party-list Representative Michael Romero, sought to naturalize Brownlee, who by birth is an American citizen.
"At present, [Brownlee] continues with his efficient sportive activities and is socially active through community service. Justin Donta Brownlee is dependable when it comes to helping Filipinos --- a true mark of a Filipino spirit and character," the bill read.
"His allegiance in this country is indubitable, his skills and competency in the field of basketball shall truly complement the entire nation," it added.
Brownlee led the Gin Kings in defeating San Miguel Beermen to win the 2018 PBA Commissioner's Cup title on August 8. The Gin Kings took the crown in six games, 4-2.
Other authors of the bill include 1-PACMAN party-list Representative Enrico Pineda, Masbate Representative Scott Davies Lanete, and Bohol Representative Erico Aristotle Aumentado. — Erwin Colcol/RSJ, GMA News
