Romeo tallies 23 as TNT trips Meralco
The TNT KaTropa won with an all-Filipino lineup on Sunday, defeating the Meralco Bolts, 92-90, in the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup.
Terrence Romeo thrilled with 23 points, 10 assists, and eight rebounds to lead TNT, while Jayson Castro and Troy Rosario rounded up the starters in double figures with 16 and 13 points, respectively. Roger Pogoy, meanwhile, was instrumental off the bench, hitting 19 points in 25 minutes on the floor.
The Bolts led by as many as seven points after a pair of Allen Durham charities at the 4:05 mark, before Roger Pogoy and Terrence Romeo ignited a 6-0 run entering the final three minutes.
Chris Newsome stopped the bleeding for the Bolts with his own freethrows, but Jayson Castro connected on a triple to tie the game at 85-all with 1:45 to go.
Pogoy then gave TNT the go-ahead basket with 60 seconds to play, as KG Canaleta and Durham missed their opportunities to tie the game anew.
Off a Castro steal, Romeo then rang in a triple to stretch the lead with 21 ticks to go, putting the game out of reach.
Allen Durham paced Meralco with 27 points and 22 big rebounds in the loss, while Baser Amer and Chris Newsome led the locals with 18 and 10 points, apiece. KG Canaleta and Cliff Hodge also chipped in nine points each as starters. — DVM, GMA News
