Magnolia claims solo second, keeps North Port winless
The Magnolia Hotshots claimed solo second place on Saturday after defeating the North Port Batang Pier, 104-87, in the elimination round of the 2018 PBA Governors' Cup.
Romeo Travis struggled with a 6 of 25 clip from the field for just 15 points, but the import made up for it with 22 rebounds, seven steals, and three assists with just one turnover in over 42 minutes on the floor.
Mark Barroca led Magnolia with 20 points, while Rome Dela Rosa rounded up the starters in double figures with 17 markers. Jio Jalalon, meanwhile, paced the bench with 13 markers.
As Magnolia limited its miscues to just 13, North Port committed 27 turnovers, which the Hotshots converted to 41 big points. Magnolia also outclassed North Port in offensive boards, 24-10, for a 23-9 win in second chance points.
With the win, Magnolia improved to 2-0, just behind league-leading Alaska (3-0). North Port, meanwhile, slid to 0-3 to best Columbian Dyip (0-4).
Rashad Woods had 25 points with a high 45 percent clip, but the import accounted for seven turnovers with six boards and four assists. Paolo Taha was the only other North Port starter in double figures with 22 points, while Gabby Espinas, Bradwyn Guinto, and Nico Javelona combined for just nine points.
