Barangay Ginebra big man Greg Slaughter has just been cleared by FIBA to play as a local for the national team.

FIBA released the decision in a letter dated September 7, 2018, signed by FIBA Secretary General Patrick Baumann.

"After a thorough review of the documentation provided... please be informed that FIBA herewith exceptionally authorizes the player Gregory WIlliam SLAUGHTER to play for the Philippines national team without restriction in accordance with article 3-21.b of the FIBA Internal Regulations," the letter noted.

In a Twitter post Saturday morning, Slaughter could not contain his excitement to be a part of the national team.

"I just found out FIBA has approved my eligibility as a local! Couldn’t be happier about this, thank you to SBP and FIBA for paving the way," Slaughter said.

He added, "I’m looking forward to beginning a wonderful journey with the national team. Para sa bayan! ????????"
