There's always a first time for everything, and for UST head coach Aldin Ayo, that first one was a tough lose.

On Saturday afternoon, the UST Growling Tigers fell short against the National University Bulldogs, 75-70, despite the 20 points contributed by UAAP Season 80 Juniors MVP CJ Cansino.

This is the first time that Ayo lost an opener since he handled the Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights in 2015, and the DLSU Green Archers in 2016 and 2017.

Coach Aldin was satisfied with Cansino's performance, but added, "Maganda nga, kaso talo eh. 'Di puwedeng may naglaro na isang player na maganda, tapos talo. Ibig sabihin di pa ganun kaganda."

Coach Aldin emphasized that they still needed to work on some adjustments. "Good thing about this is this is only our first game. We still have 13 games. Puwede pa mag-adjust," he explained.

"Good thing din, 'yung mga bata, buong-buo eh. Even with this loss, 'di kami matitinag sa ganitong talo. We're just going to keep on working hard, playing hard for our alma mater because the community deserves a good showing."

UST's next match will be with the FEU Tamaraws on Wednesday. — DVM, GMA News
