CJ Cansino records double-double to lead UST past UE for win No. 2
Rookie CJ Cansino listed 17 points and 17 rebounds to lead the UST Growling Tigers to a win over the UE Red Warriors, 80-66, Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Warriors tried to make a comeback during the second half, making 23 points against UST's 20 during the fourth period, and a close 20 against the Tigers' 21 during the third quarter.
However, the España-based squad had a 16-point lead at the end of the first half, 39-23, after going on a scoring rampage at the second period, 16 points against UE’s 6.
Cansino already listed 10 points and 12 rebounds prior to entering the second half.
"Masaya siyempre kasi pinaghandaan namin ito. Sobrang down namin the past two games, di namin alam kung bakit sa practice maganda pero hindi namin nadadala sa games. I'm very happy na bumalik na kami," Cansino said.
"Coach [Aldin] gives us a lot of confidence pagdating sa game. Binibigay niya lahat ng kumpiyansa sa'min basta tama ang ginagawa namin," the former UAAP Juniors MVP added.
Renzo Subido led the pack of the Tigers in scoring with 22 points.
UE's Alvin Pasaol, meanwhile, listed 32 points, 23 of which were made during the Recto-based squad's attempt to a comeback.
UST now holds a 2-4 record, while UE stays at the bottom of the standings with a win and five losses.
The Tigers will battle UP Fighting Maroons on Wednesday, while UE will face the NU Bulldogs next week to end the first round of eliminations. — MDM, GMA News
