DLSU annihilates UST with 41-point victory
As the UAAP played its first game outside Metro Manila, the DLSU Green Archers had its biggest win this season after demolishing the UST Growling Tigers, 110-69, Saturday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo, Rizal.
DLSU's third quarter explosion spelled the difference for the Taft-based squad as they made 34 points and limited UST to just nine-points to end, 84-40.
The Tigers tried to chase the Archers in the final period but it was too late, with the España-based squad making 29 points against DLSU's 26.
The green-and-white team relied on a strong start, listing 29 points against UST's 13 during the first period, and extending their lead to 19 at the end of the first half, 50-31.
Aljun Melecio led the Archers with 22 points, while five other players scored in double digits.
Only Marvin Lee and CJ Cansino listed double-digit scores for UST, with 26 and 14 points, respectively.
DLSU's 41-point victory recorded the second-biggest winning margin in the league since computerized stats were used in 2003.
Back in October 2016, the Taft-based squad also defeated UST with a 43-point win, 99-56.
The win solidifies DLSU's hold in the third place, 7-4, while UST goes down to 5-6.
La Salle and UST will be back on the hard court on Wednesday, with the Archers playing NU, while the Tigers will try to bounce back against Adamson.
