Tim Cone to coach Gilas Pilipinas in Manila SEA Games
Tim Cone will coach Gilas Pilipinas in the upcoming Southeast Asian Games, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) announced on Monday.
The Barangay Ginebra mentor will temporarily take the reins of the national team following the resignation of Yeng Guiao after the FIBA World Cup.
"We're taking it one step at a time and this arrangement is for the SEA Games only, for now," said SBP president Al Panlilio. "We are putting together a plan on how to move forward with our preparations for 2023 and beyond."
Cone, 61, previously coached the national team in 1998, leading the nationals to a bronze medal finish in the Asian Games.
"The resolution of our head coach situation should signify the start of our SEA Games preparations because other countries like Indonesia are already putting in the work," Panlilio said.
The SBP has yet to name a final 24-man pool for the biennial meet, which the country will host from November 30 to December 11. —NB, GMA News
