Manong Derrick returns as Green Archers head coach
It's official: Derrick Pumaren is back as head coach of the DLSU Green Archers.
The decision was announced by the DLSU's Office of Sports Development on Tuesday.
The coaching change was made months after the Taft-based squad failed to enter the Final Four for the second straight year.
UAAP Season 82 head coach Gian Nazario and active consultant Jermaine Byrd will still be part of Pumaren's coaching staff.
Under Pumaren's belt, the Taft-based squad notched back-to-back UAAP basketball crowns in 1989 and 1990. Aside from coaching DLSU, Pumaren also handled the UE Red Warriors in 2014-2017, and also coached a number of teams in the PBA such as Pepsi, Sta. Lucia, Tanduay, and FedEx.
Pumaren's younger brother Franz, coached La Salle from 1998 to 2009, while his other brother Dindo manned the head coaching post from 2010-2011.
This is the third time the Archers changed their head coach following Aldin Ayo's exit in 2017. — RSJ, GMA News
