Gilas Pilipinas goes all-Filipino in FIBA Asia Cup 1st window


The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) on Friday released the 24-man Gilas Pilipinas pool for the first window of the FIBA Asia Cup in February.

The national team will field an all-Filipino lineup with a mix of veterans, rookies, and collegiate players on the roster.

 

 

Isaac Go, Rey Suerte, Matt Nieto, Allyn Bulanadi, and Mike Nieto, the PBA rookies selected in the special Gilas draft, are first on the list. Thirdy Ravena and Jaydee Tungcab, who finished their UAAP playing years in the last season, are also included in the pool.

Collegiate players named to the pool were Kobe Paras, Juan Gomez de Liaño, Javi Gomez de Liaño, Dave Ildefonso, Dwight Ramos, and Justin Baltazar.

Marc Pingris, Japeth Aguilar, Troy Rosario, Kiefer Ravena, Poy Erram, Matthew Wright, RR Pogoy, Ray Parks, CJ Perez, Mac Belo, and Christian Standhardinger will also return for another tour of duty for Gilas after wearing the country's colors in previous FIBA competitions.

The Philippines is in Group A with Indonesia, Thailand, and Korea. Gilas will host Thailand on February 20 and visit Indonesia on February 23. — RSJ, GMA News
