Legendary UST coach Aric del Rosario passes away


Former University of Santo Tomas head coach Aric del Rosario died early this morning following cardiac arrest. He was 80.

Del Rosario’s son, Lester, confirmed the death of his father to GMA News Online.

Del Rosario made his legend at UST in the 1990s, steering the Growling Tigers to four straight UAAP titles from Seasons 56 to 59.

He served as the NCAA commissioner from 2009 to 2011 and started coaching anew for the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA from 2012 to 2015. He led the Altas to three Final Four appearances.

He was also a former assistant coach for the Alaska Aces and Talk ’N Text Phone Pals in the PBA. --JST, GMA News
