Fil-Am guard Chris Koon lands in Ateneo
Defending UAAP champion Ateneo de Manila University has beefed up its roster after recruiting Filipino-American guard Chris Koon.
Expected to play in Season 84, Koon will transfer to Ateneo from the California State Polytechnic University in Pomona.
In a virtual interview, Ateneo head coach Tab Baldwin said Koon is a player who can play multiple positions, has a variety of skills, and high basketball IQ—attributes which make him a good fit to the Blue Eagles' program.
"I think his transition into our program will be fairly seamless and won't require a lot of adjustment and adaptability," he said.
At 19 years old, Koon stands at 6-foot-4 and looks up to San Antonio Spurs legend Manu Ginobili.
"He's a lefty, slashing the lane. He's a team guy who loves to win. I kinda modeled my game after him," Koon said.
In high school, he averaged 16.0 points, 6.6 boards and 4.0 assists per game for Rolling Hills Preparatory and led his team to three straight CIF Southern Section championships as well as a CIF state title.
With the new recruit, Baldwin said these are exciting times ahead for the three-peat champions.
"This is gonna be an exciting group of players for the long time to come for the Blue Eagles," he said. —MGP, GMA News
