Calvin Abueva 'waits for signal' as PBA arrives in Clark bubble

Is Calvin Abueva finally returning to play in the Philippine Basketball Association?

In an Instagram post Tuesday, the suspended forward shared a photo of himself in a Phoenix shirt with the caption, "Waiting the signal."

The photo was posted as PBA teams arrived in Clark, Pampanga as the league restarts its 45th season inside a "bubble."

Phoenix interim head coach Topex Robinson also posted a selfie with Abueva captioned "Northbound."

Waiting the signal??????????

Asked if "The Beast" will finally see action in his hometown, PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial said in a press conference that Abueva still has to finish some requirements before his suspension can be lifted.

However, he did not rule out a possible last minute entry to the bubble before the games are scheduled to begin on October 11.

Games and Amusements Board chair Abraham Mitra, meanwhile, said that Abueva and Robinson met with GAB "to seek permission to play once again."

"Commissioner Eduard Trinidad did not commit anything and said that his request will be discussed and decided upon by the Board in the next Board meeting," Mitra said.

"Kahit i-lift ng PBA suspension nya, it does not follow na ibibigay na ng GAB ang license nya," Mitra said, quoting Trinidad.

He said Abueva will also undergo a seminar on code of conduct of a pro athlete once the GAB Board decides to grant his license.

Abueva has been suspended by the PBA since June last year. —MGP, GMA News
