Newsome saves the day as Meralco survives Magnolia in overtime
Meralco dealt Magnolia its third loss after outlasting the Hotshots in overtime, 109-104, in the PBA Philippine Cup elimination round on Tuesday.
Chris Newsome and Aaron Black's triples at the OT period carried the Bolts, who led 104-100 with 1:24 left. Jackson Corpuz and Mark Barroca made a run late in the game to trim the deficit, 105-104 with 48 ticks remaining.
It was a Newsome jumper at the 0:09 mark that gave Meralco the final push, with freebies from Raymond Almazan sealing the deal for the Bolts.
Paul Lee's charities after a John Pinto foul ended the regulation period at 94-all.
Chris Newsome registered 23 markers and seven boards while fellow Atenean Aaron Black listed 16 points.
Lee paced the Hotshots with 32 points, while Barroca had 17. Jio Jalalon and Chris Banchero added 13 points each.
Meralco now has a 2-2 record while Magnolia holds a 1-3 card.
On Friday, Magnolia will go against Phoenix while Meralco will play NLEX.
