Fans of the Los Angeles Lakers have something to look forward to as a documentary series on the franchise's history is set to be released next year.

The docuseries, which will have nine parts, will tell the story of the past 40 years of the team, starting when the late Jerry Buss acquired the franchise.

According to the NBA website, the docuseries will also feature interviews from Lakers legends Kareem Abdul-Jabar, Magic Johnson, and Shaquille O'Neal, and equally remarkable coaches Pat Riley and Phil Jackson.

Past and present players of the franchise will also be featured, along with many archival footage and never-before-seen interviews with Jerry Buss.

It will also go through Buss's journey in building the franchise, some off-court dramas, and the stories of champion teams in the eras of O'Neal and Kobe Bryant as well as LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

"Even in his wildest dreams, my father could not have imagined what the next decades would bring for our organization, our league and our city of Los Angeles. I am thrilled that the true story of the Lakers will finally be shared with the world," Lakers chief executive officer Jeanie Buss said in a statement.

The project, which is still untitled, will be released in 2022 via Hulu in the United States.
