PBA journeyman Jay-R Reyes announces retirement
Jay-R Reyes announced his decision to retire from basketball after two decades.
Reyes shared the decision on his social media accounts on Saturday, writing "20 years, 10 teams, 1 love."
Reyes took into account the 14 seasons he played in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), and the years he played for the Colegio de San Juan de Letran in high school and the University of the Philippines in college.
"It has been truly a blessing to be able to devote more than half of my life to my first love. Now, I am officially announcing my retirement from basketball," said Reyes.
"I am extremely grateful to God, my wife, kids, family, and friends who have supported me throughout this journey."
The PBA veteran also thanked all those who have been part of his basketball journey, particularly the teams he played with.
"Excited for what God has in store for me and my family in the coming seasons. I may be turning over my jersey, but my love for ball will always be in my heart."
Reyes was among the players who were elevated to the PBA when his team from the amateur ranks then, Welcoat (now Rain or Shine), entered the league in 2006.
He also played for Air21, Alaska, Meralco, Columbian, Ginebra, and finally with Phoenix before he called it a career. He won four PBA titles during his stint with the San Miguel Beermen. — LA, GMA News
