Fil-Ams Jordan Clarkson, Jalen Green to coach in Jr. NBA Philippines virtual clinics

Young Filipino basketball players can have a chance to learn from international basketball stars such as Jordan Clarkson and Jalen Green in this year's Jr. NBA Philippines Clinics Online, which will be held on May 29 and June 12.

Filipino-Americans Clarkson and Green, on May 29, will join other Jr. NBA coaches in teaching young players basketball drills, and will also participate in a life session and a discussion on fundamental skills training.

Clarkson, who plays for the Utah Jazz, will be part of the first round of this season's NBA Playoffs. He is also on the radar to becoming NBA's Sixth Man of the Year. Green, meanwhile, was part of the NBA G League select team Ignite along with other basketball prospects such as Kai Sotto.

Young girls will also have a chance to participate in the virtual clinics as WNBA legend Ticha Penicheiro will banner a Jr. NBA session designed for girls on June 12.

Aside from the clinics, Jr. NBA Philippines will also publish a series of videos in their Facebook page, starting June 21, which will tackle sports-related topics such as nutrition, psychology, and diversity among others. The videos will also feature Clarkson, Green, Penicheiro, and other resource speakers.

“We’re excited to bring together players from across the NBA, WNBA and NBA G League to inspire our young athletes participating in the first ever Jr. NBA Philippines Clinics Online,” said Scott Levy, NBA Philippines Managing Director.

“Shifting the Jr. NBA program to a virtual event will allow us to safely engage young boys and girls through basketball while continuing to promote the importance of an active and healthy lifestyle,” he added.

The Jr. NBA Philippines clinics are open for 13 to 17-year-old boys and girls across the country. Interested applicants can register at www.jrnbaasia.com. —Justin Kenneth Carandang/JMB, GMA News
